Odysseus Reborn – Xenopharmacopia (Album Review)

Instantly enthralling and stealing your mind away, Odysseus Reborn welcomes you to the other world with their latest album release Xenopharmacopia, released in early April 2020 on all major platforms. The slow heavy rhythms, textured guitar distortions and keys, offering both dissonance and melody, and soaring vocals progress the listener through the realms of reality for over an hour of listening time…until you hit replay.

Opening tracks Point Insertion and Planet Smoker set mood and inquisition, followed by Fornication Migration introducing keys and interesting layered vocals. Narrowing Halls brings fat chunky bass, distortion and swirling guitars to throw yourself away into before your hit by a beautiful atmospheric break in the middle of the album- Astrosapiens…perhaps a reminder the band is “Aliens pretending to be Humans making Alien music pretending to be Human music”.

The power of the album, Thermite reintroduces blunt heavy speed and forces a questioning of the choices and perspective in life. The keys of the outro lead into the strings and keys of Predictions also blending perfectly into Approaching Intergalactic Nomadic Superintelligence…where truly, the title says it all. Vex and Dead Star bring the album to a close combining all musical elements and lyrical concepts bringing about urgency and destructive force that summates man-kind.

Hailing from Bundaberg, Queensland Australia, these four guys may just have a more solid grasp on what is reality and truth than anyone.

Give it a listen and hear for yourself; as the band puts it, “Engage in an out of body experience”.
