Daemon Pyre – Serpent Gods and a Dying Sun (Album Review)

Looking for a headbanging album that pulls out all the stops? Look no further because Deamon Pyre has crafted a ripper of an album that is filled with progressive, grooves, and melodic elements which pushes the extreme death sound beyond limits.

The Progressive guitars dual, creating layers of intricately performed leads and rhythms.

There are clear ‘djent’ influences as the album is laced with a real bass groove, an element I was pleased to find in a melodic death band. Death/Thrash style riffing is broken up with headbanging brutal bridge’s that would enthral a crowd. Talk about building momentum, the melodic elements to the chorus have you gasping for more, as you become completely submerged into ‘Serpent Gods and a Dying Sun’, and will leave you pleasantly surprised with some minor harmonic elements throughout the album. The vocals range from spitting harshness to brutal gut-wrenching growling, working in the different vocal styles with each instrumental part. The Drumming is fierce, leaving the feeling that every minuscule element has been carefully considered and placed.

The writing quality by Daemon Pyre is extremely high, with the production being smooth, well thought out and recorded to perfection.

This Album makes me excited at the prospect of seeing Daemon Pyre live when the borders eventually re-open. I am absolutely stoked that Australia has another brutal band producing high-quality albums added to its ranks.

This is why I rate the carefully crafted album, ’Serpent Gods and a Dying Sun’ by Daemon Pyre 5 out of 5 roos, but instead of roos, let’s make that 5 sagacious serpent skulls.
